The men behind the music

I'm 45 and joined last year - I can't read a note of music and hadn't sung since school. Turns out it doesn't matter. You stand next to someone who knows the part, and it goes in. Six months on I was singing a concert. Should have done it years ago.

My wife says I only joined for the trips and the pub afterwards. Twenty years on, I'm not entirely sure she's wrong. The singing's not bad either.

  • Dai, second tenor, with Llantrisant Male Choir

I joined in 2023 after retiring. I was nervous walking in — within ten minutes someone had put a cup of tea in my hand and I've barely missed a session since.

Founded when Victoria was on the throne, the choir has sung through two world wars, countless eisteddfodau, and generations of town life. Today we're a registered charity, carrying one of Wales' great traditions forward.
