The Board of Trustees

Registered Charity No: 1201350

As a charity formally registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales, Llantrisant Male Choir is carefully managed and overseen by a dedicated board comprising eleven trustees. It includes the Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, and Charity Advisor, as well as a trustee representing each of the choir’s four chorister sections, along with an additional three non-member trustees.

This diverse composition of the board ensures that a wide range of expertise and perspectives are actively shaping the choir’s direction towards achieving its mission and overarching goals. Moreover, this well-structured board setup promotes a culture of transparency and accountability, instilling confidence in all decision-making processes.

annual general Meeting

At the Annual General Meeting held in the last week of March, when the honorary President and honourary Vice Presidents are appointed.

All appointments are normally for a two-year period, allowing for continuity and stability in the leadership. This process of appointment not only marks the dedication and commitment of the individuals chosen but also signifies the trust and confidence placed in them by the Board of Trustees, the choir members and all stakeholders.

Our Choristers

Our choir of some 50 strong accomplished choristers deliver a sound that is uplifting, rich and full with four-part harmonies stretching upwards from the bottom basses to the top tenors.

Our repertoire is varied and extensive with songs suitable for every occasion. Naturally, it includes many well-loved traditional Welsh hymns, favourites selected from the world of opera and musical theatre, spiritual and gospel music with a number of stunning new arrangements of popular current chart hits.  Just to add … our choristers have gained more than a smattering of Spanish, French and Italian enabling them to perform a select number of songs to perfection!

Why not buy one of our CDs?  We’re confident you’ll like what you hear!

The Music Team

At the helm of our choir is the innovative Musical Director, Matthew Nash, who leads us with creativity and passion. Assisting him are our very talented accompanists, Jane Coles and Llinos Jones, both highly regarded professional musicians in their own right. Together, they bring out the best in our performances, infusing every note with skill and artistry.

matthew nash

BA (Hons), MA

Matthew is the professional public face of the choir and provides inspirational leadership and motivation for the music team and choristers.  Withan outstanding talent for musical detail and exceptional conducting, choir training and vocal coaching skills, he is responsible for selecting appropriate musical pieces to ensure the choir is fully prepared, confident and able to deliver exceptional performances.

Studying music at the University of Bristol, Matthew majored in performance and composition and was an assistant tutor to Dr Glyn Jenkins, teaching harmony to undergraduates. Whilst at University, Matthew received piano tuition from International concert pianist Raymond Clarke, and has performed at The Barbican, London. He graduated from the University with two music degrees, BA, Hons (First Class) and MA (Distinction).

Also an accompanist, Matthew played piano for Llanharan RFC Songsters, Cowbridge Male Voice Choir, Bristol Cabot Choir and the University of Bristol Choral Society and has also accompanied for Nigel Perrin (The Kings Singers), also teaching piano and vocal tuition from home.

With a talent for writing music, his compositions and arrangements have been performed in various venues across the UK. Significant compositions include a commission for Piano, Violin and Clarinet Trio for the professional ensemble ‘Gemini’, and two large scale works for Orchestra and Chorus one of which ‘Nightingales’ received its UK premiere in 2018.

Having assumed the role of Musical Director for Llantrisant Male Choir in March 2013, Matthew continues to enjoy the challenge of delivering innovative ways of taking the choir from strength to strength and motivating members, writing modern arrangements to keep the repertoire fresh, current and relevant and regularly conducting a varied programme of  performances at venues across the UK.

Her reputation as an event pianist with a wide and varied repertoire of popular music keeps Jane in high demand for concert performances, wedding ceremonies and a variety of other special occasions and functions.

Jane’s music studies included a piano scholarship at the Welsh College of Music and Drama, Cardiff and a Graduate Diploma in Jazz, Popular and Commercial Music at Newcastle College.

Llinos Jones

BMus (Hons)

Llinos recently joined our music team in the summer of 2023 as one of our two accomplished accompanists.

Llinos is originally from Llandeilo and gained a BMus(Hons) from the University of Manchester in 1997. Alongside her musical interests, she works as an independent radio producer making features and documentaries for the BBC.

Guest Soloists

Introducing …

Esther Shoshana Thomas-Bizjak

We’re absolutely thrilled to introduce Esther as our special guest soloist for our 1st March 2024 St. David’s Day concert at Llantrisant Parish Church. Esther‘s journey started at Stagecoach, where she spent over a decade perfecting her talents and gracing the stage in numerous musical productions. From rocking out as Summer Hathaway in ‘School of Rock’ to enchanting audiences as Louisa Von Trapp in ‘The Sound of Music’ and bringing ‘Miss Honey’ to life in ‘Matilda,’ her performances have been nothing short of magical.

As a proud member of the Welsh National Youth Opera and the West Glamorgan Youth Theatre Company, Esther’s star has only continued to rise. Recently, she dazzled audiences as Lady Castlemaine in ‘Nell Gwyn’ and lent her incredible voice as a guest soloist for both Caerphilly Male Voice Choir and Cowbridge Male Voice Choir. Her latest triumph was claiming victory in her age category at the Dunraven Singer of the Year competition, culminating in a stunning performance at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

Congratulations, Esther, from all of us at Llantrisant choir! We’re overjoyed to support you as you prepare for your upcoming roles in ‘Phantom of the Opera’ and ‘The Railway Children.’ Your talent knows no bounds, and we can’t wait to see where your bright future takes you. Here’s to many more memorable performances together!

Introducing …

Siwan Henderson

Mezzo Soprano

Siwan is an accomplished Mezzo Soprano and a talented actor who regularly performs in concert with the choir. Siwan has kindly penned a few words below on the difference our support has made to her career. It gives us great pleasure knowing we gave Siwan a helping hand during the early stages of her professional career and wish her every success for the future. We look forward to the next time we perform together.

“Llantrisant Male Voice Choir have given me the most wonderful performing opportunities over the last few years. I left school wishing to pursue a career in Musical Theatre but felt I was not ready to audition for London drama schools. I needed some more solo experience as a singer to boost my confidence and this is where the choir helped me.

I have sung in numerous concerts with the choir including the Crecy concert in Llantrisant along with concerts in Dinas Powys and most recently at the Bethel Baptist Church, Pontyclun. These experiences helped me to grow enormously as a singer and the following year I went on to study a degree in Musical Theatre at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, London.

Llantrisant Male Voice Choir have been so supportive of my career and I am so grateful to them for allowing me to be a part of their musical family”

Thank you all,
